What is Motorcycle Club Protocol?

In the realm of motorcycle clubs, there exists a wide array of structures and ideologies. From MCs and RCs to MM's and Social Clubs, each club has its own interpretation of what it means to respect and uphold the protocols of the old school days. However, the concept of "Old School Protocol" has become somewhat ambiguous in recent times, as many clubs seem unaware of the historical rules that once guided the MC lifestyle.

Are Women Against motorcycle Club Protocol?

One protocol that garners consensus is that women should not wear club colors. Yet, it may surprise some to learn that some of the oldest and largest clubs in the nation once allowed women to wear their colors. Does the fact that this practice is no longer allowed now define the standard of Motorcycle Club Protocol?

No Hard Patches in a Cage?

Similarly, the question of wearing a hard patch while riding in a vehicle raises differing opinions. According to "Lightning", a former member and President of a prominent MC in the Midwest during the 1960s, the matter of wearing a rag in a cage was never a topic of discussion. It was a personal choice, with little significance to others.

It is What it Is

The path to earning a full patch also varies across clubs, resulting in various styles and time frames for probate or prospect patches. The truth is that all these approaches are valid. Times have changed, and club protocols have evolved accordingly. Each club has its own unique set of identifying "Protocols," and as they say, "it is what it is." Many clubs have a dominant club and a support or affiliate club, each with its own protocols. Joining one of these clubs and adhering to their protocols is likely to garner respect from those in your area and potentially from other clubs nationwide.

Respect

Respect within a club extends to its President and fellow members. Demonstrating respect can take various forms, such as acknowledging the President's wisdom, protecting the group when out together, and keeping a watchful eye on leadership. If you treat your leaders with respect, others will follow suit, and the same respect will be extended to you. It's important to remember that leadership is a position that may be yours one day, where you'll have the opportunity to impart knowledge to future generations. How a club carries itself is crucial.

Club Mode

Whether at events, bars, or in public, being in "Club Mode" is vital. Over the past two decades, we have both invested much effort on teaching young Brothers the essence of "Club Mode." Being aware of your surroundings and presenting yourself accordingly is paramount. When wearing a rag, every individual can be seen as a potential adversary, from the rowdy drunk at the bar to a group of friends looking for trouble. Such situations exist in every bar, requiring vigilance and self-control. Most protocols are grounded in common sense and self-respect. How can one expect other clubs or the public to respect their organization if they don't display respect for themselves? Ultimately, self-respect must be demonstrated at every opportunity, reflecting positively on the club as a whole.

Why? Because we said so.

Keep it Real!
